Siliguri, 19th November: Thirty-five Councillors of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) held a press conference on Wednesday in the municipal corporation meeting hall in response to Ward No. 46 Councillor and Member of Mayor-in-Council (MMIC) Dilip Barman’s recent allegations of financial irregularities against Mayor Gautam Deb and Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar.
The councillors accused Barman of making personal attacks, giving deliberate and baseless comments about the functioning of the board, and misrepresenting the legal process for demolishing illegal constructions. They also stated that the party would take action against him soon.
Meanwhile, Dilip Barman defended himself, saying that when he first raised the issue of illegal multi-storey buildings two months ago, the councillors had remained silent.
He added that although he received a show-cause notice from the party and submitted a reply, he has yet to receive any response.
