24-hour Bharat bandh: Major impact witnessed in Siliguri

Siliguri, 26th February: After the recent fuel price hike, the 2021 Budget is now making headlines. The traders have expressed displeasure over the Centre’s new budget alleging it to ignore the poor masses and their needs. Condemning this, the Confederation of All India Traders all business called a strike on February 26.


The scenario was very different across the city since this morning. 22 organizations of the Eastern ABC Chamber of Commerce and Industries supported the strike. The retail and wholesale markets, Nayabazar, Bidhan Market, and other markets were kept shut. On the other hand, the business associations in Siliguri staged a rally in support of the bandh.


Besides, strict police surveillance is being kept since this morning to prevent any untoward incident.

Gauri Shankar Goyal, general secretary of Siliguri Merchant Association, said that a total of 22 business organizations have supported the strike. A protest rally will also be held in this regard. A memorandum will also be issued at the Matigara State Government GST Office.
