175 kg cannabis seized in Kharibari; two arrested

Kharibari, 01st May: In a major crackdown, Kharibari police foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of cannabis and arrested two individuals in connection with the case.


Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, police intercepted two four-wheelers in the Banchavita area of Kharibari and recovered 175 kilograms of cannabis from the vehicles.

The accused, identified as Hamidul Haque and Nabi Hossain, are residents of Dinhata in Cooch Behar district.


According to police sources, the cannabis was being transported from Cooch Behar to Bihar.

The seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 20 lakh. Both accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday as police continue their investigation into the smuggling network.
