Fulbari, 29th June: A tragic incident unfolded in Rangalivita of Putimari under Fulbari II Gram Panchayat where a 15-year-old girl committed suicide after being allegedly scolded by her father. The deceased, identified as Mallika Roy, was a ninth-grade student.
Family sources revealed that Mallika’s father, Madan Roy, frequently returned home drunk and caused disturbances, leading to her mother leaving the family a year ago. Since then, Mallika lived with her father and grandparents but often spent nights at her uncle’s house. On Saturday morning, Madan Roy, once again intoxicated, scolded Mallika. Shortly after, Mallika was found hanging in their home.
Officials from the New Jalpaiguri police station responded to the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
