Siliguri, 12th February: The Left front called for a 12-hour strike across Bengal on February 12 protesting against the attack on the party’s workers and supporters during the Nabanna Abhiyan.

The bandh has stirred mixed reactions across Siliguri since this morning. All commercial places and vehicles are fully operational throughout the city, however, shops in Hill Cart Road, Bidhan Road, Bidhan Market are closed.

The vehicle and NBSTC services remained largely normal in the NJP and Junction area. Nonetheless, a large police force has been stationed in various areas of the city since morning to avoid any untoward incident.

It is to be noted that the left front leaders held Nabanna Abhiyan on Thursday in support of several demands including the setting up of new industries in the state and unemployment. The atmosphere boiled up in the Dharmatala area surrounding the campaign. Police resorted to lathi-charge and used tear gas and water cannons. In the course, several workers and activists were injured.
