Kharibari, 11th March: Kharibari Police foiled an alleged cattle smuggling attempt and rescued 12 cattle from a truck loaded with watermelons near the Bengal-Bihar border on Wednesday.
According to sources, the operation was carried out during a naka checking at the Chakkarmari checkpost along the Bengal-Bihar border in Kharibari. Police stopped a truck carrying watermelons and conducted a search.
During the search, 12 cattle were found hidden behind the load of watermelons in the vehicle.
As the driver failed to produce any valid documents for transporting the cattle, police arrested him on the spot. The accused has been identified as Mehboob Ali, a resident of Assam.
The arrested driver was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday. Police have started an investigation into the incident.
