Siliguri, 24th June: A major theft took place at the under-construction nursing college in the Jorapari area under NJP police station, where a gang of thieves allegedly stole 11 mobile phones from workers while they were asleep at night.
According to local sources, the labourers, who had come from Alipurduar to work on the site, were asleep when the theft occurred. In the morning, many workers complained of eye irritation and pain, and soon discovered that their mobile phones had been stolen.
The workers also alleged that the construction site lacked adequate night-time security, and no guard was present during the incident. A formal complaint was lodged with the NJP police station.
Police have launched an investigation and are looking into the possible use of sedatives and the security lapses at the site.
