10th-grade student allegedly murdered over love triangle in Siliguri, body recovered from Sukna forest

Siliguri, 10th February: A shocking incident has come to light in Siliguri’s Matigara area, where 15-year-old 10th-grade student, identified as Subhojit Modak, was allegedly murdered over a love triangle dispute. The body of the missing student, who had been untraceable for three days, was recovered on Monday from Sukna forest, sending shockwaves across the locality.

Subhojit Modak was a resident of Simultala area under Matigara police station. According to his family, he had been missing since Saturday. They allege that 25-year-old Raj Paswan, also from the area, called Subhojit out of his home and took him along, after which there was no trace of him.

Police sources stated that Raj Paswan contacted Subhojit around 6 pm on Saturday, and by 10 pm, Subhojit’s phone was switched off. His family searched throughout the night without any success and filed a missing person complaint at Matigara police station, fearing abduction.

During the investigation, police discovered that a long-standing dispute between Raj Paswan and Subhojit over a minor girl was central to the case. Preliminary investigations suggest the love triangle was the main motive behind the alleged murder.

While investigating, Matigara police detained a 15-year-old minor from the same locality. During questioning, he revealed details of the incident and guided the police to recover Subhojit’s body from Sukna forest.

According to the police, a quarrel broke out between Subhojit and Raj Paswan in the forest, which escalated into physical assault, resulting in Subhojit’s death. The accused then fled the scene, abandoning the body.

Raj Paswan remains at large, and police are conducting continuous raids to apprehend him. The detained minor has been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) court.

The incident has sparked grief and outrage in the area. Subhojit’s family has accused Raj Paswan of luring him under false pretenses and demanded swift arrest and capital punishment for all accused. Police continue an in-depth investigation and are searching for the fugitive.
