Jalpaiguri, 31st January: A bird trader, identified as Sudipto Mukherjee has been detained for allegedly carrying out illegal wildlife trade of rare bird species at the Jalpaiguri Deshbandhu Para More area.
Based on a tip-off, the Forest Department Special Task Force launched an operation at a bird shop in Deshbandhupara, Jalpaiguri on Friday morning and recovered 2 yellow Tia (Tiya). Besides, 2 more rare bird species were recovered by the Task Force personnel. The shop has also been sealed on behalf of the Forest Department.
According to the report, these birds were being sold for 9 thousand rupees.
