Islampur, 22nd April: Sensation prevailed after a huge cache of cannabis was recovered from a pick-up van carrying watermelons in the Ramganj area under Islampur police station. The van driver Alam Miya and Mangal Chandra Mandal were arrested in the incident.
According to police sources, the pickup van was on its way to Gangarampur from Jalpaiguri in the wee hours of Wednesday. The police, upon searching the vehicle, seized a huge quantity of cannabis which was hidden inside the fruit. The pick-up van was immediately detained by the police.
Islampur District Police Superintendent Sachin Makkar stated that cannabis worth lakhs have been recovered from the van. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
