Siliguri, 10th June: A young man died after falling into a pit dug for four-lane construction work in Matigara, Siliguri. Following the incident, Minister Shankar Ghosh met the victim’s family and friends on Wednesday and visited North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in the afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Subrata Sarkar, a resident of Alipurduar. He reportedly fell into a water-filled pit near Khaprail More on Tuesday night. It is also learned that he was a student of North Bengal University.
Following the incident, the minister contacted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and sought a detailed report from officials. He also spoke with police authorities regarding the matter.
Shankar Ghosh instructed officials to ensure proper barricading at all ongoing construction sites along the national highway. He further discussed the incident with the district magistrate and emphasized stricter safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
