Siliguri, 14th June: In a tragic incident, a woman lost her life after being attacked by a wild tusker in the Baikunthapur forest of Salugara adjacent to Siliguri.
Local sources revealed that on Friday morning the woman, a local resident of the Vedagara area of Dabgram No. 01 ventured out on a search for her cattle at the Baikunthapur forest. During this, the woman encountered a wild elephant and was subsequently trampled to death.
Locals spotted the body and immediately informed the Bhakti Nagar police and the forest department officials. Upon receiving the news, the police officials and the forest personnel arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and transferred it to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination. At present, the entire incident is under further investigation.
