Woman in Naxalbari sets two people on fire, strict punishment demanded for the culprit

Siliguri, 18th October: Aggrieved by her husband’s extramarital affair, a woman allegedly set her husband and his alleged lover on fire using petrol. The incident surfaced from Kiran Chandra Tea Garden located in Naxalbari.


On Monday, the residents of Kiran Chandra Tea Garden and the family of the deceased demanded strict punishment for the accused Rupa Das who has been arrested after the relatives of the deceased lodged a written complaint against her.

It has been learned that the accused, Rupa Das, is the wife of tea garden officer Sudipta Das. Another woman named Sujata Chik Baraik was on her way to work, during which, Rupa Das allegedly poured petrol from behind and set her on fire. Later, both Sudipto and Sujata died while undergoing treatment.


The family of the deceased Sujata Chik Baraik and the residents of the tea garden alleged that the incident was pre-planned. The police have also demanded an impartial inquiry into the matter. Meanwhile, the Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum has come forward to stay by the side of the family of the deceased woman.
