Woman assaulted, tonsured over alleged extra-marital affair in Rajganj

Rajganj, 26th September: In a horrifying incident, a woman was assaulted and tonsured by some villagers allegedly as punishment for an extra-marital affair. The incident surfaced from Peshkar Para village under Panikouri Gram Panchayat of Rajganj. 


As per the information, the woman’s hair was shaved off, her face smeared with black ink, beaten up and was worn a garland of shoes around her neck all because she allegedly eloped with her lover leaving behind her husband and two children.

According to sources, the said woman ran away about two months ago. When she returned to her in-laws’ house on Saturday night, the locals thrashed the woman alleging that she had eloped with another man. 


Upon receiving information about the incident, the Rajganj police reached the spot and rescued the woman. Based on the complaint of the woman, three people in the area were arrested. The accused have been identified as Kartik Mandal, Sukesh Sarkar and Krishna Das. They were produced in the Jalpaiguri court today. Police are probing the entire incident.
