Siliguri, 17th October: The West Bengal government is planning to digitise the state’s tourism sector within the next six to seven months, Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh has announced. The initiative aims to make information about tourist destinations, historical heritage sites and major attractions across different districts available through digital platforms.
As part of this initiative, the Darjeeling district administration has launched the state’s first digital tourism app to facilitate tourists visiting North Bengal during the Durga Puja festivities. Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh inaugurated the app at a programme held in Siliguri. The district administration developed the app in just three days.
The app will provide information about major tourist destinations, heritage sites and historical landmarks across Darjeeling district on a single platform. It is expected to help tourists plan their trips more conveniently while bringing lesser-known destinations to the attention of a wider audience.
Ghosh said that Darjeeling is usually the first destination that comes to mind when people discuss tourism in North Bengal, although the region has several other attractive places worth exploring. He said the digital tourism app would help make information about these destinations accessible to more people.
The minister further stated that similar tourism apps would be launched in other districts of West Bengal. The initiative aims to make tourism-related information more accessible digitally and improve the convenience of travel planning for visitors. The Darjeeling district administration’s initiative marks a significant step towards the digitisation of the state’s tourism sector.
