WB Panchayat Elections 2023: BJP candidate’s kin murdered in Dinhata, Cooch Behar

Cooch Behar, 18th June: An incident of murder has surfaced ahead of the upcoming Panchayat polls in the state in which the brother-in-law of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate has been allegedly killed. The incident surfaced from the Tiadaha area under Kishamat Dasgram Gram Panchayat of Dinhata block no 2. The deceased has been identified as Shambhu Das.


According to reports, a family member of the BJP candidate was allegedly lifted forcefully from outside the house and murdered on Saturday night. Later, the dead body was discovered in a blood-soaked condition adjacent to the house.

Notably, Vishakha Das, the sister-in-law of the deceased, is contesting as a BJP candidate. Following the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of the incident. However, the latter denied the allegations.


Speaking in this regard, Naren Das, father of the deceased, alleged that miscreants called out his son at night and subsequently murdered him. Additionally, he said that his second son’s wife is contesting as a BJP candidate in the Panchayat Election. He further alleged that they were threatened by the TMC.

Meanwhile, North Bengal Development Minister, Udayan Guha, while terming the incident to be sad, stated that the opposition is attempting to give the incident a political makeover by accusing the TMC. He added that Shambhu Das was not involved in politics and the matter is under investigation by the police.
