Violence reported from Dinhata once again, 6 injured

Cooch Behar, 02nd July: In the backdrop of the Governor’s visit, violence surfaced once again from the Bhoram village area under Dinhata 1 Gram Panchayat (GP). The alleged kidnapping of Trinamool Congress (TMC’s) Panchayat Samiti candidate’s son resulted in violence in which, six individuals, including TMC’s Zonal President Mahfuzar Rehman, have been injured.


According to reports, allegations have been raised against a local independent candidate and supporters for the kidnapping of Raju Haque, son of TMC’s Panchayat Samiti candidate, Khaleel Haque. In this regard, the TMC has alleged the independent candidate to be backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, the BJP has denied the allegations.

Following the incident of the alleged kidnapping, TMC’s Gitaldaha Zone President Mahfuzar Rehman, reached the area along with some supporters. During this, they were allegedly attacked with sharp weapons and physically assaulted, in which, Mahfuzar and Rafiqul Haque were severely injured. Subsequently, they were rushed to Dinhata Sub-Divisional Hospital. Later, they were referred to another hospital in Cooch Behar.


Meanwhile, after taking note of the incident at night itself, Governor CV Ananda Base arrived at the Hospital on Sunday and met the injured. At night, after the incident, a huge contingent of police reached the spot to prevent further deterioration of the prevailing situation. According to sources, several individuals were detained by the police.
