Siliguri, 09th December: Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Samiti submitted a 14-point memorandum at Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
A rally was taken out from Baghajatin Park, Siliguri on Thursday. Members of Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Samiti staged a lengthy protest in front of Court More and SMC. Their 14-point demands include salary increase, job permanency, life insurance, land lease, and proper sewers in the area of sanitation workers.
Kiran Rawat, president of Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Samiti, said, “I came to submit a memorandum to Goutam Deb, chairman of the governing body of SMC. However, due to his absence, we submitted the memorandum to the commissioner, to which he promised a solution within 10-12 days.“ She warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met at the earliest.
