Siliguri, 28th December: In a major operation, NJP police station officials apprehended two youths in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The accused, identified as Mohammad Faizar Ali, a resident of Rajganj, and Altav Ali from Thakurganj, were caught near the Kathalbasti Crematorium on Friday afternoon.
Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the duo, who were traveling to Fulbari on a scooty carrying a 7.65 mm pistol. During the search, authorities recovered the pistol, three rounds of ammunition, a knife, and two mobile phones. The scooty used in the operation was also seized.
According to police sources, the duo intended to commit criminal activities in Fulbari. Investigations revealed that Altav Ali had been renting a house in Jorpokhri, Fulbari, for some time, further suggesting plans to carry out unlawful acts in the area.
The arrested individuals were produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday, and the police are continuing their investigation into the case.
