Siliguri, 09th October: A two-day capacity-building training programme was organised at the NIC in Sukna on October 8 and 9 to curb illegal wildlife trafficking and wildlife-related crimes along the India-Nepal border.
The programme was jointly organised by the Darjeeling Wildlife Division and the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE). Members of the Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) deployed along the India-Nepal border participated in the training.
Forest department officials posted in the border areas of India and Nepal, representatives of various law enforcement agencies and officials from the border unit of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) also took part in the programme.
The sessions focused on identifying cross-border wildlife trafficking, monitoring wildlife crimes, detecting illegal activities and discussing effective measures to prevent such offences.
Sukna Range Officer Deepak Rasaily, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) Inspector K. Poddar, Dr Sunita Pradhan and Dr Nakul Chhetri served as expert speakers during the programme.
They shared important insights into wildlife crime monitoring, identifying trafficking networks and curbing illegal cross-border activities.
