Siliguri, 02nd March: In a foiled attempt to illegally trade firearms, the Matigara police arrested two accused with a single-shot gun and live cartridge. The accused Tafazzul Hussain and Rakesh Ali are both residents of Kushmandi in Dakshin Dinajpur.
According to police sources, the accused had travelled from Malda to Siliguri in a Bolero car with the intention to illegally trade the arms. Meanwhile, the Matigara police were alerted of the occurrence. The police initiated an operation and halted the vehicle adjacent to Siliguri Gate near the Siliguri Police Commissionerate. Upon searching the vehicle, the police recovered a single-shot gun and a live cartridge.
Following that, the vehicle was confiscated and the accused Tafazzul and Rakesh were arrested in the act. On Saturday, both the suspects were produced before the Siliguri court. The police have sought remand for both accused in order to investigate the case.
