Tri-Services Mountaineering Expedition Summits mount Khangchengyao in North Sikkim

Siliguri, 02nd October: The 18 member Tri-Services team led by Lieutenant Colonel Mirza Zahid Baig summited Mount Khangchengyao the 4th highest peak in Sikkim and 10th highest in India, today. All members of the expedition team braved extreme weather conditions and scaled the heights with unflinching determination raising Tricolor at the summit.

Mt Khangchengyao at a height of 6889 metres is considered amongst the most challenging peaks due to steep climbs, vertical ice walls, freezing temperatures and rarefied atmosphere.

The Tri-Services Expedition was flagged off from Gurudongmar Lake on September 20. The team will now scale down and flagging in is scheduled at Sukna on 08 Oct 2021.

The Expedition was planned in continuation of celebrations to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War to honour the valour and sacrifice of soldiers who ensured our victory.
