Tri Services Mountaineering Expedition launched in North Sikkim to commemorate Swarnim Vijay Varsh

A Tri Services Mountaineering Expedition to Mount Khangchengyao in North Sikkim was flagged off from Gurudongmar Lake on 20 Sep 2021. The expedition has been planned in continuation of celebrations to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the 1971 war and to honour the valour and sacrifice of soldiers who ensured victory for India in 1971.

The 18 member Tri Services team led by Lieutenant Colonel Mirza Zahid Baig are expected to reach the 4th highest peak in Sikkim and 10th highest in India by 07 Oct 2021. Mt Khangchengyao at a height of 6889 metres is considered amongst the most challenging peaks due to steep climbs, vertical ice walls, freezing temperatures and rarefied atmosphere.
