Siliguri, 26th May: Traffic police from Jalpai More Traffic Guard conducted a drive in the Mahabirsthan area of Siliguri against illegal e-rickshaw (Toto) parking and roadside encroachment by shops.
During the operation, officials found several Totos parked along different roads, causing obstruction to vehicular movement. It was also observed that some shopkeepers had set up stalls by occupying parts of the road, leading to difficulties for pedestrians.
During the drive, traffic police first issued warnings to shopkeepers and Toto drivers, instructing them not to occupy roads and to park vehicles only in designated areas. No fines were imposed during the operation, and violators were let off with warnings.
Police said the drive was carried out to ensure smooth traffic movement in the city, and repeated violations in the future would lead to strict legal action.
Some local traders have welcomed the initiative taken by the police.
