Rajganj, 05th November: More than three months have passed, but Dipankar Gope has still not returned home. As the family continues to wait for his return, they have decided not to celebrate Kali Puja at home this year. With Diwali approaching, the Gope family is spending the festive season amid anxiety and uncertainty.
According to the family, Dipankar was allegedly abducted by a group of people from Bangladesh on August 8 while working on his land near the Chaulhati border in Rajganj. He was reportedly taken away while spraying pesticides in his tea garden located beyond the barbed-wire fencing along the border.
The family further claimed that he was subsequently handed over to the Bangladesh Police on allegations of stealing areca nuts.
Since then, his family members have been waiting for his return to India. Despite several rounds of communication and meetings between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) over the matter, no resolution has reportedly been reached so far.
Dipankar’s wife, Mahamaya Gope, has appealed to the administration to take necessary steps to ensure her husband’s early return home.
