Siliguri, 22nd January: The Bhakti Nagar police station has solved the case of jewellery theft from the staff quarters of a private school in Siliguri. Three individuals, identified as Baiju Sahani, Mohammad Zahirul alias Lalu, and Arjun Prasad, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Reportedly, the theft occurred in December last year when gold jewellery was stolen in broad daylight from the quarter of Deenanath Prasad, an employee residing with his family in the school’s staff quarters. Following the incident, Prasad lodged a complaint at Bhakti Nagar police station, prompting an investigation.
Acting on a tip-off, the police first arrested Baiju Sahani, a resident of Ratanlal Basti under Pradhan Nagar police station. During his remand, Baiju disclosed the involvement of another accused, Mohammad Zahirul, who was subsequently arrested. The police recovered 5 grams of melted gold from Zahirul.
Upon further interrogation, the duo revealed that they had melted the stolen jewellery and sold it to a man named Arjun Prasad. Arjun was later arrested, and 15 grams of melted gold was recovered from him.
On Wednesday, Arjun Prasad was produced in Jalpaiguri court. The police continue to investigate the matter thoroughly.
