Siliguri, 30th March: SOG and the police of Matigara police station have arrested three people including a woman with 300 grams of brown sugar in a joint operation. The three accused have been identified as Dipti Barman and MD Sarfaraz, of residents of Cooch Behar, and driver Shyam Hasda, a resident of Salugara. Reportedly, both Deepti Barman and MD Sarfaraz are romantically involved.
Reportedly, on Wednesday Deepti Barman was returning to Siliguri accompanied by her lover MD Sarfaraz from Dalkhola in a passenger vehicle from Matigara. Acting on a tip-off, the SOG and the undercover police of Matigara police station intercepted their vehicle near Mayadevi Club. After this, while conducting a search of the vehicle, a packet of brown sugar was recovered from inside Deepti’s purse.
They had the plan to smuggle the brown sugar into Siliguri. However, the cops of SOG and Matigara police station foiled their plans. All three were arrested and 300 grams of brown sugar were seized from them whose market value has been estimated at around Rs 6-7 lakh.
