Gajoldoba, 16th June: In a significant development in the Maynaguri ATM robbery case, police have arrested a third accused, identified as Irfan Khan, taking the total number of arrests to three.
According to reports, Irfan Khan was apprehended on Sunday by a joint team from the Gajoldoba Outpost under the Bhorer Alo Police Station of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and the Maynaguri Police Station. He was arrested near the Karla River, adjacent to Gate Bazaar in Gajoldoba.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused is a resident of Rajasthan. However, no looted money was recovered from his possession. He has been taken into custody by Maynaguri Police for further questioning.
Earlier, two other accused, Aslup Khan from Uttar Pradesh and Mohammad Shamsher Ali from Bihar, were arrested. They were produced before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Sunday, where the judge ordered a 10-day police remand. Both are currently being interrogated in custody.
With the latest arrest, three of the five suspects involved in the case have been taken into custody. A joint search operation by the police and forest department is ongoing in the Baikunthapur forest area to trace the remaining two accused.
