Siliguri, 08th July: An audacious theft occurred in Siliguri’s Madhya Shanti Nagar that caused a stir in the area. Reportedly, the thieves made off with gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 7-8 lakhs along with cash.
Sources revealed that on Sunday, local resident Samarash Dutta went to visit a relative with his family. Upon returning home at around 9:30 PM, they found that the back door was broken. Upon further intervention, they found that the almirah was smashed open and the items were scattered all over the place.
The robbery came to light when the family found out that the thieves had fled with cash and jewellery. The family was devastated and broke down in tears upon the realization of the theft. The incident was immediately reported to the Ashighar Outpost police. The police arrived promptly and initiated an investigation into the incident.
In this regard, Samarash Dutta stated that they went to visit a relative in the afternoon and discovered the robbery later in the evening. Meanwhile, locals mentioned that this was not the first theft in the area and urged for police surveillance to prevent such incidents.
