Siliguri, 11th January: On Monday, the Terai Drivers’ Organization took out a rally from Dagapur and concluded at Darjeeling More in support of various demands.

Following this, a meeting was organized at the Dagapur truck stand where discussions were held with the drivers regarding their various demands.

Organization secretary Mehboob Khan said that a rally and a meeting was organized today on behalf of the organization concerning the 5-point demand. He said that although petrol and diesel prices have gone up, passenger fares in the hills have not been raised for a long time. Besides, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown imposed across the nation, they faced extreme losses, and keeping in mind the current situation, they are unable to drive their vehicles as per the previous fare.

Apart from an increase in fares, they demanded a stop to harassment in the name of police checking in the hills and a waiver of car insurance in Siliguri. They also demanded that passes should be issued in the city for visiting Tiger Hill.
