Siliguri, 11th April: Siliguri’s Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus is set to be renovated, with efforts jointly taken by the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) and the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). This bus terminus, located at Siliguri Junction, serves as a major hub for buses on various routes, catering to thousands of passengers daily.
The terminus has been facing several issues for some time. To address these problems, authorities have started installing new paver blocks at the site. Alongside, beautification work is also being undertaken to improve the overall appearance of the premises.
Two days ago, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb visited the bus terminus along with NBSTC officials to review the ongoing work. As part of the initiative, measures are also being taken to ensure cleanliness at the bus stand. It has been reported that garbage is being dumped at the location from nearby hotels. To resolve this issue, the Municipal Corporation will now place a VAT at the premises.
Furthermore, police personnel will be deployed at night to enhance security, as allegations have surfaced regarding anti-social activities taking place in the area after dark.
In the coming days, a joint discussion will be held among the police, district administration, NBSTC, and the Municipal Corporation regarding further developments and actions concerning the Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus.
