Siliguri, 25th September: A team of Bagdogra Circle Excise Department detained three persons with illegal liquor worth lakhs of rupees. The arrested have been identified as Satish Nandal (53), Amit (30) and Saharuddin (30), all are residents of Haryana.
According to the information, the team under the leadership of OC Subhash Haldar of Bagdogra Circle Excise Department campaigned near Fulbari-Ghoshpukur, last night. During the checking, two trucks bearing a Jharkhand number and a Rajasthan number plates were searched. A substantial amount of liquor was found hidden in both trucks. When the drivers failed to produce any valid documents of liquor, the Excise Department team detained three people including both the vehicles. It is being told that liquor from Arunachal Pradesh was being smuggled in both the trucks under the guise of plywood.
Subhash Haldar, OC, Excise Department, Bagdogra Circle, said that the operation was launched based on a tip-off. Three people have been taken into custody in the case. Furthermore, the estimated amount of seized liquor is said to be around Rs 70 lakhs.
Meanwhile, Darjeeling District Superintendent of Excise Praveen Thapa said that the team of Bagdogra circle has successfully cracked a big case. Apparently, the peddlers were trying to smuggle the illicit liquor from Arunachal Pradesh to Bihar. At present, the team of Bagdogra Circle Excise is investigating the whole matter.
