Siliguri, 11th March: Customs, NJP GRP, and RPF have successfully exposed the smuggling of foreign cigarettes through the Rajdhani Express. Foreign cigarettes worth lakhs of rupees were seized from NJP railway station during the operation.
As per sources, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Customs, NJP GRP, and RPF conducted a raid on platform number three of NJP railway station on Tuesday. During the operation, the team recovered two trunks from two separate bogies of the Dibrugarh-Delhi Rajdhani Express.
Upon inspection, the trunks were found to contain 460 packets of Korean cigarettes, with an estimated market value of ₹10-12 lakh. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the seizure.
According to customs sources, the consignment is believed to have been smuggled into India from Myanmar and was intended to be transported to Delhi via train from Assam.
