SMC holds key meeting on Annapurna Yojana form distribution, World Environment Day and Van Mahotsav preparations

Siliguri, 01st June: A crucial meeting was held on Monday at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation to discuss the distribution of forms under the Annapurna Yojana, preparations for World Environment Day, and the upcoming Van Mahotsav celebrations.

The meeting was attended by representatives of various voluntary organisations, members of the environment committee, officials from the forest and fire departments, MMICs, borough chairpersons, and opposition representatives.

After the meeting, Mayor Goutam Deb stated that under the state government’s Annapurna Yojana, 33 out of 47 wards in Siliguri have been assigned to the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer for form distribution, while the remaining 14 wards will be handled by the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

He added that coordination between different departments was discussed in detail and that certain names and data must be submitted to the state government by Wednesday.

Preparations for World Environment Day, to be observed on June 5, were also reviewed during the meeting. This year’s theme, ‘Mayer Namey Ekti Gachh,” will guide various awareness programmes across the city.

Officials also discussed large-scale tree plantation initiatives under Van Mahotsav. Last year, the civic body planted around 10,000 trees, most of which have survived, and based on that success, an even larger plantation drive has been planned this year.
