Siliguri, 10th July: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) carried out an eviction drive in the Santoshi Nagar area of Ward No. 05 on Friday, creating tension in the area.
According to reports, during the drive, a portion of a house and a shop in front of it belonging to resident Surendra Sahani were demolished.
After the eviction drive, Sahani levelled serious allegations, claiming that two local residents, Jitendra Singh and Guddu Singh, had allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from him. He alleged that after he refused to pay the amount, his house was targeted as an act of revenge.
Sahani further claimed that he had lodged a complaint with the Siliguri Police Commissionerate regarding the matter in 2025 and had also approached the Calcutta High Court.
He alleged that although the High Court had ordered the demolition of two houses, the eviction drive was carried out only against his house, raising questions over the action.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has not issued any statement regarding the allegations.
