Siliguri’s Deputy Mayor performs ‘Tarpan’ and ‘Chakshu Dan’ on the occasion of Mahalaya

Siliguri, 02nd October: With the end of ‘Pitru Paksha’ and the beginning of ‘Devi Paksha,’ Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation performed ‘tarpan’ at the Lal Mohan Maulik Niranjan Ghat on Mahalaya morning. Following this ritual, he visited Kumartuli to draw eyes on the idol of Goddess Durga.


As in previous years, many people gathered at the Lal Mohan Maulik Niranjan Ghat to perform the customary ritual of ‘tarpan’, creating a significant crowd. Residents from Siliguri and surrounding areas gather on the banks of the Mahananda River to pay homage to their ancestors.

After performing the water offering in memory of his forefathers, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar proceeded to Kumartuli, where he conducted the ‘Chakshu Dan’ ceremony.
