Siliguri youth saves a minor from being trafficked, gets felicitated by police

Siliguri, 13th July: Siliguri police commissioner Gaurav Sharma felicitated a youth named Jayanta Kr Singha for saving an innocent girl of Belakoba from being trafficked.

It is to be noted that Jayanta Kr Singha is a Siliguri-based businessman who owns a car rental service. Besides hiring drivers, he also provides driver’s services occasionally. As per Jayanta, he received a call from a man who wanted to hire his car service to get his sister dropped off at Bagdogra airport. The man claimed he lives in Jalandhar, Punjab, and his sister was coming to visit him. Singha readily agreed to offer his service, however, the flight was canceled and rescheduled for another date.

On the day of the flight, Jayanta drove to Belakoba. Upon arrival, he found that the man’s sister whom he was supposed to ferry to Bagdogra airport was a minor girl, traveling alone, without any luggage. Moreover, no one was with the girl to see her off. Jayanta became suspicious and called the man who had contacted him, who gave him the contact details of a woman whom he said was his mother. The woman then called Jayanta and offered him Rs. 3,000 to drop the girl, but when he hesitated, she increased the offer to Rs. 30,000. Singha understood that it was a case of woman trafficking, and intimated the police.

Confirmed now that his suspicion was true and that the minor was on the verge of being trafficked, Jayanta took the girl to her home in Belakoba and handed her over to her relatives, as well as the advance amount he had taken from the caller.

Singha was felicitated by the Commissioner of Police, Siliguri for not falling into greed and saving the young girl from being trafficked.
