Siliguri residents voice ‘We Want Justice’ slogans on R.G. Kar incident during Durga idol immersion

Siliguri, 15th October: In a demonstration calling for justice, locals in Siliguri immersed a Durga idol while chanting ‘We Want Justice.’ This act was part of an ongoing series of protests aimed at demanding justice for the rape and murder victim of the R.G. Kar incident.

Following the R.G. Kar incident, a series of protests, rallies, and movements erupted across the state and the country. The efforts resulted in no signs of slowing down, with the community vowing to continue the protests until the perpetrators are punished. Participants are taking to the streets during festivals and pujas demanding justice.

During the immersion ceremony, two puja committees in Siliguri made a powerful stand against the R.G. Kar incident. The domestic puja committee from Deshbandhu Para and the Agradut Welfare Society from Samar Nagar gathered at the Mahananda River for the idol immersion and chanted slogans in support of justice along with devotion to the goddess.

In this regard, representatives from both puja committees expressed their frustration, stating that more than a month has passed since the outrageous R.G. Kar incident without any punishment for the guilty. They prayed to Goddess Durga for the eradication of societal evils, represented as the demon Mahishasura, during the immersion ceremony.
