Siliguri, 30th December: Darjeeling District Congress, on Thursday, released the first list of candidates to contest in the upcoming Siliguri Municipal Corporation election. The list of candidates for 15 out of 47 wards of SMC was announced by Darjeeling District Congress President Shankar Malakar through a press conference at Bidhan Bhawan in Siliguri on Thursday. Other Congress leaders and workers were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Shankar Malakar said that the former councillors will be contesting for Ward No. 16 and 21, while new candidates have been given the opportunity to contest in other wards. Furthermore, Ruchira Malakar, daughter of Shankar Malakar, has been given a ticket for Ward No. 26. Congress sources said that another list of the party candidates is likely to be released in the coming days.
