Siliguri, 10th June: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has continued its drive against illegal constructions in the city. In the latest action, an illegally built godown near Shyam Mandir on Sevoke Road was demolished on Wednesday using a bulldozer.
According to information, the structure was made using iron rods and a tin roof, and no valid permission had been obtained for its construction. After receiving complaints, the civic body conducted an inspection, which confirmed violations of building norms, leading to the demolition order.
On Wednesday, municipal officials along with staff and heavy police deployment reached the spot and carried out the operation. During the drive, the godown owner allegedly tried to obstruct the action initially, but the situation was brought under control and the demolition was completed.
Municipal officials stated that the crackdown on illegal constructions in the city will continue. They added that any structure built in violation of rules will not be spared.
