Siliguri Metropolitan Police tighten city’s security ahead of municipal elections

Siliguri, 23rd January: The preparations of the Election Commission for the municipal corporation elections have been completed, while the polling stations have been selected by the SDO for the Siliguri Municipal Corporation elections.


As per the information, there are 501 polling stations in the SMC elections. Out of which 18 per cent centres have been marked as sensitive. In view of the municipal elections, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police is also engaged in strengthening the city’s security system. A route march was initiated in the city today by the SMP to ensure that the security system is maintained in the city ahead of the elections.


Today, under the leadership of ACP Manish Yadav, IC of Siliguri Metropolitan Police Station, a route march campaign was conducted in various streets including Ward No. 46, Samar Nagar, Ganesh Ghosh Colony, Dhaknikata, Pokai Jote.

It is to be noted, in view of the rising covid cases, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation election has been postponed by the Election Commission for 3 weeks from the scheduled date. Earlier the polls were to be held on January 22, however, as per the modification, the municipal elections will now be held on February 12. Reportedly, the route march of the SMP will continue till the upcoming elections.
