Siliguri Metropolitan Police halts operation of unregistered e-rickshaws on main roads

Siliguri, 01st August: Unregistered e-rickshaws have been restricted from running on the main roads of the city. This decision was made by the Siliguri Metropolitan Police in an effort to reduce traffic congestion.

The initiative has been undertaken followed by a recent meeting between Mayor Gautam Deb, and senior police officials, including the Police Commissioner and the DCP of Traffic, regarding the issue of e-rickshaws in the city.

From Thursday morning, unregistered e-rickshaws are prohibited from traveling on main roads such as the Hill Cart Road, Sevoke Road, and Bidhan Road, as well as various national highways. Additionally, the e-rickshaws are prohibited from operating across the city’s internal roads.

On this day, traffic guards have launched an operation to enforce this ban and prevent unregistered autos from operating. Police sources indicate that this operation will continue in the coming days.
