Siliguri man hangs himself to death after a family dispute, investigation underway

Siliguri, 19th August: Sensation prevailed in the area after the body of a person was found hanging from the noose inside a house located in the Baghajatin Colony area under Ward No. 02 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The deceased has been identified as Shankar Banik.

As per the report, Shankar Banik got married about three years ago. A family dispute had been allegedly going on between him and his wife for a few months. A similar conflict broke out last night as well. After which Shankar Banik went to his room. When Shankar did not open his door this morning, nor did he respond to any calls, his father grew suspicious and peaked through the window. To his dismay, he saw Shankar’s body hanging from the noose.

The Pradhan Nagar police station was immediately informed. The police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased alleged that Shankar and his wife often used to quarrel. Furthermore, Shankar’s wife used to called her maternal relatives, who would then create a lot of ruckuses in the house and also beat up Shankar. On the other hand, Anu Mahato, the aunt of Shankar’s wife, alleged that after the marriage, they noticed a certain change in Shankar’s behaviour. He apparently was having an extramarital affair with another woman. Due to this, there was often a dispute between the husband and wife.

Addressing the issue, Ward No. 02 Councillor Gargi Chatterjee, reached the spot after the incident came to light. An investigation has been launched into the matter.
