Siliguri, 06th January: Soon after Mainaguri Trinamool MLA Ananta Dev Adhikari slapped a reporter during a press conference on Tuesday, journalist all around the region burst in rage and highly condemned the incident.
The Siliguri Journalists Club, today, staged a sit-in protest near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue opposing the harassment faced by the journalist.
Media is recognized as the fourth pillar of democracy and the attack on a journalist for irrational reasons is highly reprehensible.
Journalists from different places are raising voices against this incident. Siliguri Journalists Club president Pramod Giri, General Secretary Angshuman Chakraborty, Co-President Irfan Azam, and many other members were present during today’s protest.
Angshuman Chakraborty demanded the accused MLA to apologize to the journalist immediately or else the Siliguri Journalists Club will take up more protests in the future.
