Siliguri e-rickshaw drivers protest route restrictions during meeting

Siliguri, 10th November: E-rickshaw drivers in Siliguri have expressed strong discontent over the recent implementation of route-specific restrictions. They held a meeting to protest these new regulations and demand a return to the previous system where they were allowed to operate freely throughout the city.

The local administration has introduced a colour-coded sticker system to segregate e-rickshaw routes, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion. However, e-rickshaw drivers claim that these new restrictions have caused numerous problems for them. They alleged that the police are not allowing them to operate on the routes initially assigned. Recently, these drivers staged a protest to voice their grievances.

Following the protest, the police had assured the drivers of a meeting to discuss the issue. In anticipation of this meeting including Sudip Ghosh, the president of the Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri E-Rickshaw Association, e-rickshaw drivers from various stands across the city gathered at the Mahananda Riverbed on Sunday afternoon to discuss their next course of action.
