Naxalbari, 15th November: The Shanti Nagar Raas Mela, the second largest fair in North Bengal after the Cooch Behar Raas Mela, was inaugurated on Friday with a traditional Kalash Yatra. The fair will continue until December 3.
The ‘Kalash Yatra,’ which marks the beginning of the festivities, started from Shanti Nagar and passed through Naxalbari’s Rathkhola before reaching the Khemchi River. Women from the locality filled the Kalash at the river to mark the beginning of the celebrations.
The festive event will feature various cultural performances, including Baul music, traditional lyrical of Manasa Mangal, and Jatra theatrics, attracting thousands of visitors. Organizers are optimistic that this year’s fair will draw a much larger crowd compared to last year.
