Schoolgirl brutal murder case: Police arrests accused in Siliguri

Siliguri, 22nd August: The Special Operations Group (SOG) and cops of Matigara Police Station under Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrested an individual in connection with the brutal murder of a schoolgirl in Siliguri. The accused, identified as Mohammad Abbas (22), was arrested within five hours of the incident from Lenin Colony in Siliguri.


It has to be noted that, on Monday afternoon, the lifeless body of the schoolgirl was found in an abandoned area in the Rabindra Pally vicinity, under the jurisdiction of the Matigara police station, with her head mercilessly crushed. Following this, ACP Rajen Chhetri and DCP Abhishek Gupta along with other police officials rushed to the spot, retrieved the deceased body, and transported it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. Subsequently, Matigara police initiated an investigation into the incident.

Following the arrested, during a media briefing, DCP Abhishek Gupta revealed that the accused Mohammad Abbas was arrested following an investigation on the basis of inputs received from eyewitnesses and CCTV footage. The officer added that the preliminary investigations pointed at sexual assault to be the primary motive of the accused.
