Rhino horn and elephant tusk recovered in Rajganj, 3 arrested

Rajganj, 18th January: The North Bengal Special force of Baikunthapur Forest Department has arrested 3 international smugglers along with rhino horn and elephant tusk. The accused have been identified as Arjun Tiwari, a resident of Bhutan, Subhash Chettri, a resident of Sikkim and Peter Rai, a resident of Alipurduar.


The Task Force In-charge and the Belakoba Range Officer Sanjay Dutta stated that acting on a tip-off, he disguised himself as a toto driver and nabbed the 3 smugglers from the Malbazar area.

A rhino horn and a piece of ivory weighing around 500 grams were recovered from their possession. Besides, 2 four-wheeler small passenger cars have also been seized.


The arrested accused will be sent to the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday.
