Residents protest against setting up safe home at a Bhawan in Siliguri’s Kumortuli

Siliguri, 18th May: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has planned to build a safe home for women at a Bhawan in Siliguri’s Kumortuli. After learning about the matter, the residents of the area protested against setting up a safe home in their area.

The SMC workers reached the spot on Tuesday morning. After the residents learned about the plans of setting up a safe home, they started protesting. The locals claimed that setting up a safe home in a residential area will risk their chances to contract the virus. Ward Co-ordinator Parimal Mitra visited the spot and tried to convince the residents. However, his attempts went in vain.

Ranjan Sarkar, a member of the BoA at SMC, said that the safety of the residents must be taken seriously. The safe home will be formed taking all precautions.

Incidentally, last year, the administration had to face protests from residents while trying to build a safe home at Siliguri Indoor stadium.
