Petrol, diesel become expensive as soon as elections get over in Bengal

Siliguri, 06th May: As soon as the Bengal assembly elections concluded, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased. The assembly election results came on May 02, and since then, the fuel tax has been increasing daily by 10-20 paise.

From the 03rd to the 06th of this month, the price of petrol has increased by 50 paise and diesel by 50 paise. The general public is worried that the fuel price hike could again stoke inflation.

Interestingly, the price of petrol and diesel had stabilized for nearly a month, before the end of the polls. A buyer at a petrol pump in the city claimed that the hike in fuel price had just been stalled to please the people amid the ‘election season.’ But now that the results are out, the government no longer sees the need to pay any heed to the problems being faced by the people.

Today, petrol pumps in Siliguri are selling Petrol at the rate of Rs 90.93 and Diesel at Rs 84.60 per litre. The manager of a Siliguri-based petrol pump said that the fuel price has been increasing for the last three days. There is an increase of 50- to 60 paise in three days. To make matters worse, the prices are expected to rise in the coming days as well.
